Ports in Myanmar

A total length of Myanmar coast is 2228 km (1,260 nautical miles), along the Rakhine coast is 713 km, along the delta area is 437 km and the coast of Tanintharyi is 1078 km long. Of the nine ports along the coast, Yangon port is a major international port, handling more than 90 % of the country’s normal exports and imports. In terms of number of wharfs, there are 28 berths in Yangon Inner Harbour with the total quay length of 4,640 m. In Thilawa Outer Harbour, there has been 20 berths with total quay length of 3,801 m.

Myanmar International Terminals Thilawa (MITT) is a multi-purpose container terminal located at Thilawa near the mouth of the Yangon Rive. The terminal offers a comprehensive range of safe, efficient and productive services to the shipping industry 24 hours a day seven days a week.

MITT is located just 25 kilometers from Yangon,the largest city in Myanmar and the country’s international trade portal, through which 90 percent of the nations maritime trade passed. The terminal is also adjacent to the Thilawa Special Economic Zone planned to become operational by the middle of 2015.

MITT have five berths capable of handling a wide variety of cargo, Large Vessels with deeper draft could dock at MITT compared to at city terminals. There is also a rail line right into the terminal linking MITT not only with Yangon city but also with the national rail network.

MITT provides international standard service with berthing capacity for five ocean-going vessels of up to 2,000 TEU feeder ships and conventional cargo ships of 35,000 tons dead weight MITT facilitates container trucking service and inland shipping barges to ensure cost effective and efficient movement of cargoes. There is also a container barge service between MITT and Shwe Pyi Tha Industrial Zone. MITT applies the most strongest safety and environmental rules in line with ISPS code security standards. Security policies ensure that all users of our facilities are protected at all times.
